Serving Your Way Into Greatness

Everyone wants their life to be great – to really count for something. Even the apostles had aspirations for greatness.

They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?” But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” - Mark 9:33-35

The path to greatness is found in a spirit of serving

Greatness does not come by trying to be great, by being first, or by thinking the world revolves around you. Greatness comes by serving those around you. We become the most valuable when we are the greatest servants.

The value of your life is in your contribution, not in your consumption

A great business understands that the better service they provide, the better business they will be. Want to be the greatest in your industry? Provide the best service.

The path to promotion is learning to make yourself matter

Those who serve and those who contribute are the people that would be the most missed if they left their church or their job. Make yourself matter in all areas of life by being the best servant you can be!

Make yourself matter by serving

Try to act great and important, and you end up losing. Try to serve in the greatest way possible and you will find greatness.

John 13:1-17

What do you do when you’re the most powerful person in the room? Jesus taught us to use our power and platform to serve others.

1. Servanthood is proactive, not reactive

One of Jesus’ top guys is about to betray him, but that didn’t stop Jesus from washing Judas’ feet. We have to choose to be servants. Don’t let someone else’s misuse of your serving keep you from serving and don’t let other’s lack of appreciation steal your own path to greatness.

If Jesus could serve and wash the feet of Judas, then we can keep serving unto the Lord.

2. A spirit of servanthood lifts the whole church to greatness

Great church is not built on the talents of a few, but on the sacrifice of many.

3.True Serving is birthed out of a confident sense of identity

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God, and was going back to God - John 13:3

Jesus knew what was His. He knew that the Father had given all things into His hands. He knew where he had come from and where he was going.

As we serve, let’s bring Godly dignity and poise, and a confident sense of identity to our serving!
