Expanding Your World Through Teamwork - Joy #12

Joy: Expanding Your World Through Teamwork

Whatever “size” your world is now, God has increase on His mind. Increase is built in to the Kingdom.

Isaiah 9:7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.

Your world will grow as your thinking, understanding, faith and heart grow. Your world will grow as your connections grow – as your ability to play team grows.

The Apostle Paul was a great team player in ministry. He learned how to delegate, to build teams and to allow others to share in the ministry God had given him.

Philippians 2:19-24

Learn how to play team, how to delegate and let things be delegated to you. Your influence will grow in relation to your team.

Teamwork and delegation are not easy but are necessary if we want to expand our world and the world of those around us.

Four struggles of delegation

1. If I want it done right, I have to do it myself

Remember, you are called to lead and develop people and giving them a responsibility will help them grow.

2. Because I'm good at it, I should do it

Just because you can do something well doesn't mean someone on your team can't do it just as well or better. If someone else can do a job 80 percent as well as you, give it to him.

3. They won’t be able to do the job right

The only way to find out is to give them the chance to try. Often, people will surprise you with what they're able to do.

It's the job of a leader to facilitate the personal growth of his or her people. Delegation is a great way to stretch and grow your people.

4. People will think I'm not on top of my job or that I’m shirking my responsibilities

As a leader, you need access to those who can be trusted to keep you informed of everything you need to know. You can’t have your hand in everything, but you can have your voice in everything.

Qualities to look for in those you delegate to and qualities to develop

1. Delegate to a spiritual brother or a spiritual son

A spiritual brother or son is one who shares a kindred spirit with you. Quit trying to get people who don’t “get you” to play on your team. Find people who love you and love what you’re doing.

2. A desire to please the Lord

A lot of character issues are resolved when you know a team member has a strong inward desire to please the Lord. When you can trust someone’s heart is fully after the purpose of God, you can delegate fully to them.

3. Someone who has proven some degree of effectiveness already

If a person cannot handle small things well, they cannot handle big things.

4. Someone who is willing to work and willing to fight

A proven work ethic is valuable. Without it, you are inviting trouble.
